As Monster Hunter Wilds approaches its February 28 release, developer Capcom has announced it is examining ways to lower the game's recommended GPU specifications.
This confirmation comes via the official German Monster Hunter X/Twitter account, which added that Capcom is also considering the release of a dedicated PC benchmarking tool.
For 30 FPS at 1080p, Capcom recommends an Nvidia GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. This minimum target also specifies an internal resolution of 720p, using DLSS or FSR upscaling at the "lowest" graphics preset.
The recommended settings for Monster Hunter Wilds aim for 1080p and 60 FPS with upscaling and Frame Generation enabled. Examples include the RTX 2070 Super, RTX 4060, or AMD RX 6700 XT. Of the three, only the RTX 4060 supports Nvidia's Frame Generation; the 2070 Super and 6700 XT would rely on FSR 3—a technology that exhibited ghosting issues during the previous Monster Hunter Wilds beta.
Targeting 60 FPS with Frame Generation active is not considered optimal. Digital Foundry suggests a baseline of 40 FPS in third-person games. Running below 60 FPS with upscaling can introduce noticeable input lag, reducing responsiveness.
During the Monster Hunter Wilds open beta, PC gamers with lower-end hardware faced challenges, including those using mid-range cards such as the RTX 3060. A notable issue was a low-LOD bug that prevented high-detail textures for characters and monsters from loading properly.
Monster Hunter Wilds is powered by Capcom's RE Engine, first introduced with Resident Evil 7 in 2017. The engine has since delivered smooth performance across titles like Devil May Cry 5, Monster Hunter Rise, and Street Fighter 6 on multiple platforms.
However, the RE Engine has shown limitations in large open-world games with dense NPC and enemy populations, as seen with Dragon’s Dogma 2’s performance issues on consoles and PC. This raises concerns for Monster Hunter Wilds. With an open beta scheduled for early February and the full release at the end of the month, Capcom's efforts to ease GPU demands could prove critical to the game's success on PC.
