Battlefield Labs: Shaping the Future of Battlefield Through Community Collaboration
Battlefield Studios, in partnership with Electronic Arts (EA), has launched Battlefield Labs, a revolutionary platform designed to foster collaboration between players and developers. This initiative, announced on February 3, 2025, aims to directly integrate player feedback into the development of future Battlefield installments.
The studio recognizes the crucial role of community input, stating that the upcoming Battlefield game is "entering a critical phase...that will benefit from collaboration with the community like never before." Selected players from European and North American servers will be invited to participate in the initial phase of Battlefield Labs. While a specific release date remains unannounced, interested individuals can register their interest via [link].
Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization, emphasized the importance of this pre-alpha testing phase: "This game has so much potential…now is the time to test the experiences our teams have been building." Battlefield Labs provides the crucial avenue for this community-driven refinement.
Although participation is limited initially, Battlefield Studios assures that updates will be shared with the broader community, ensuring everyone can follow the progress. This collaborative approach is planned for future Battlefield titles as well. The studio comprises DICE, Ripple Effect, Motive, and Criterion, bringing a wealth of experience to this endeavor.
Testing Core Gameplay Elements:
Battlefield Labs will focus on testing key aspects of the game, starting with core combat and destruction mechanics. This will progress to weapon, vehicle, and gadget balancing, culminating in testing map design, game modes, and squad dynamics. The familiar Conquest and Breakthrough modes will be included, offering opportunities to refine existing gameplay.
Conquest features large-scale battles centered around capturing control points (flags). Teams compete with a limited number of tickets, lost upon respawn or enemy flag control. Breakthrough pits attackers against defenders, with attackers gaining tickets by securing sectors and eliminating remaining enemies.
The class system is another area ripe for player feedback. While confident in their progress, Battlefield Studios recognizes the value of community input to achieve the optimal balance of form, function, and feel. Battlefield Labs represents a significant step towards creating future Battlefield games that truly resonate with the player base.
