At Brighton’s Develop Conference, MachineGames’ Design Director Jens Andersson and Audio Director Pete Ward shared insights into how the Swedish studio crafted Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, marking the archaeologist’s highly praised return to video games.
Their presentation highlighted development challenges, noting that key elements came together late in production—a common trend in gaming—while audio quirks introduced unexpected hurdles. Throughout, the team’s dedication to authenticity stood out, with meticulous attention paid to details ranging from the iconic whip crack to 1930s market stalls, all designed to establish an immersive atmosphere.
The effort resonated strongly with critics and players alike. IGN awarded Indiana Jones and the Great Circle a 9/10 in its review, stating: “An irresistible and immersive global treasure hunt, and far and away the best Indy story this century, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle doesn’t belong in a museum; it belongs on your hard drive where you can play the heck out of it.”
With DLC anticipated and sequel rumors swirling around the game’s ending, IGN sat down with Andersson and Ward at Develop to discuss major changes made during the final year of development and explore potential future directions.
