Deadlock Update Schedule Shifting in 2025: Fewer, Larger Patches Planned
Valve has announced a change to its update strategy for the free-to-play MOBA, Deadlock, starting in 2025. Instead of frequent, smaller updates, the game will receive fewer, but significantly larger and more impactful patches.
This shift follows a year of consistent updates in 2024. According to Valve developer Yoshi, the previous two-week update cycle hindered internal iteration and didn't allow sufficient time for external feedback before the next update. While this may disappoint some players expecting continuous content, it promises more substantial updates with a greater impact.

The recent winter update, featuring unique gameplay adjustments, foreshadows this new approach, suggesting a move toward more limited-time events and significant content drops. Yoshi confirmed that future major patches will be less frequent and larger in scope, functioning more like events than minor hotfixes. Regular hotfixes will still be deployed as needed.
Deadlock, which initially launched on Steam in early 2024, has quickly gained popularity despite not yet having an official release date. The game boasts 22 playable characters, further expanded to 30 with the addition of eight heroes in Hero Labs mode. Its unique anti-cheat measures and distinct steampunk aesthetic have also contributed to its success.
While the exact release date remains unconfirmed, Valve promises more Deadlock news in 2025. The focus on larger, less frequent updates suggests a commitment to refining the game experience and delivering more impactful content.
