Halo Infinite's "Summer 2025 Update" is now live and will run until June 10.
This release introduces several new features, including fresh playlists, the Mutilator power weapon, sandbox updates, new Forge tools, expanded options on the Weapon Bench, and much more. It also adds 50 additional reward tiers, four new armor sets, bonus XP, and an extra challenge slot for players who upgrade to the Premium Operation Pass.
For some, these changes may feel overdue. Halo Infinite has undergone substantial transformation in recent years, including the rebranding of its developer, 343 Industries, to Halo Studios. This followed a significant drop in player engagement after its initial release, with fans expressing disappointment over content shortages, flawed progression systems, aggressive monetization, and the cancellation of a highly anticipated battle royale mode.
Other players, however, now believe Halo Infinite is in its best state ever.
A Reddit thread titled "Halo Infinite REALLY should do a 'relaunch' ad campaign. It's just not the same game as at launch. Not even close" featured one fan commenting: "I can't imagine any Halo fan who hasn't tried it since launch would be disappointed if they came back. I doubt the broader gaming community realizes how much has been added and improved.
"After a several-month break, I returned to find three new weapons, countless new maps, multiple Firefight modes, and a huge variety of items to unlock and progress through—and that’s just from a short time away. A strong relaunch trailer showing all the updates would give the game a major boost and help rebuild its reputation.
"I still see people criticizing the game for issues that were fixed years ago," they added. "We've gotten three new equipment pieces, five new weapons, over a hundred new maps, at least ten new game modes, hundreds of armor pieces, a much fairer free credit shop, expanded ranked playlists, plus the Career Rank system. All of the old battle passes add up to nearly a thousand tiers, and one of them is entirely free with awesome Reach-inspired armor. There’s also an amazing Forge mode, custom games browser, Firefight, and AI support in Forge—something only Halo 5 offered before."
"I absolutely agree—this is easily the best Halo since [Halo 3] and 343’s finest work. It took time to get here, but sticking with it has been rewarding," one user agreed, while another replied: "I feel the same. One of my friends gave up early and hasn't returned. He still criticizes the game, but I keep telling him it’s genuinely great now—he just won’t listen."
"From a multiplayer standpoint, it’s the best Halo ever made," another fan noted.

In another discussion, where the original poster shared that iconic Halo Infinite promotional image of Master Chief resting his helmet against his leg, someone asked: "How do you all view this image now, considering what Halo Infinite has evolved into?"
"I genuinely love Infinite. I started playing midway through Season 1, and it rekindled my passion for a series I’d abandoned during Halo 4. It offers the best Spartan customization, a great rotation of game modes, enjoyable custom games, and a fun, unique campaign—plus an incredible soundtrack," one user responded.
"I’m on my way to my first Onyx rank and will likely hit max career rank for the first time in any Halo game. The movement is fluid and seamlessly blends classic Halo feel with modern enhancements—even sprinting feels just right. Although I still love and revisit the older games, Infinite has my favorite gameplay overall. It has truly outgrown its rocky launch and keeps improving. I’m excited for what’s next, and it’s become one of my top entries in the series."
"It’s currently the best arena shooter on Xbox," another replied. "Halo Infinite delivers the kind of experience I wish Call of Duty still did."
A more reserved fan expressed: "This image reminds me of the last shred of hope I had for the franchise. Honestly, I think Halo's golden era is over—the original talent that created its magic is long gone."

We thoroughly enjoyed Halo Infinite's single-player campaign back in 2021, giving it a 9/10 in IGN’s Halo Infinite review and stating: "Halo Infinite's campaign successfully reinvigorates the series, highlighting Master Chief’s distinct combat style while cleverly revisiting classic elements. Although the story lacks depth for both newcomers and longtime fans, the six-year wait was justified."
In light of Microsoft’s ongoing multiplatform publishing approach, some Xbox supporters are questioning whether Halo might eventually come to PlayStation, following titles like Forza Horizon 5 and Gears of War. Last November, Microsoft’s gaming head Phil Spencer stated there are no 'red lines' for its first-party titles.
