Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet promises to deliver a significantly more expansive and free-roaming experience compared to the studio's past endeavors. Drawing inspiration from the critically acclaimed Elden Ring, the developers are set to introduce open-world exploration mechanics that echo the freedom and vastness of that title. Journalist Ben Hanson has disclosed that the game will be set on a singular, expansive planet, inviting players to unravel the enigmatic history of a lost civilization and delve into the intricacies of an emerging religion, which forms the crux of the narrative. While it's yet to be seen how closely the game will adhere to traditional open-world conventions, it's clear that the developers are steering away from the linear paths seen in their earlier works.

In a pioneering move for the studio, The Heretic Prophet will have players navigate the game's universe solo, without the aid of companions or allies. As Neil Druckmann explains, the aim is to immerse players in a profound sense of isolation within an uncharted cosmos, while also exploring themes of faith and religion in depth. The storyline unfolds in an alternate future on the planet Sempiria, isolated from the rest of the galaxy for over 600 years. It is on this mysterious world that bounty hunter Jordan Moon lands, driven by her contract.

Druckmann further reveals that the game's development has been influenced by iconic titles like Half-Life 2 and Monkey Island. This suggests a shift away from conventional guidance mechanisms towards a narrative style where players actively piece together the story from scattered fragments, enhancing the sense of personal discovery and engagement.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was unveiled at The Game Awards 2024, though a specific release date remains under wraps, leaving fans eagerly anticipating further updates on this intriguing new venture.
