Street Fighter 6 has officially surpassed 5 million copies sold worldwide, Capcom announced today. This marks an increase from the 4 million units reported in September 2024, with momentum boosted by the fighting game's recent debut on Nintendo Switch 2.
Capcom pursued a strategic release on Nintendo's new console to expand Street Fighter 6's audience. The Switch 2 version includes exclusive modes tailored for the platform and innovative gameplay features utilizing the Joy-Con 2's motion controls. Notably, the port also supports cross-platform play, significantly increasing the matchmaking pool.
"Our initiatives have successfully broadened Street Fighter 6's appeal worldwide, contributing to reaching this 5 million sales milestone," stated Capcom.
The game previously hit 3 million sales in January 2024, seven months post-launch. While Capcom confirms Street Fighter 6 is meeting expectations, the company originally set ambitious goals to surpass Street Fighter 5's performance, targeting lifetime sales exceeding 10 million units.
"Although we don't disclose specific budget details, we're committed to outperforming Street Fighter 5's numbers," Capcom explained. The current sales figures indicate there's significant ground to cover before overtaking Street Fighter 5's 7.8 million total.
For historical context: Street Fighter 2 Turbo (1993, SNES) sold 4.1 million copies, the groundbreaking Street Fighter 2 reached 6.30 million, while Street Fighter 5 stands at 7.8 million.
An intriguing comparison emerges with fighting game competitor Mortal Kombat 1, which has also reached 5 million sales since its September 2023 launch. Despite Mortal Kombat typically dominating fighting game sales, this installment underperformed expectations, prompting developer NetherRealm to shift focus to a new project.
Meanwhile, Capcom continues supporting Street Fighter 6 with Year 3 content, recently announcing four new DLC fighters: Sagat arrives this summer, C. Viper this fall, Alex in early 2026, and Ingrid closes the roster expansion in late spring 2026. The roster reveal featured wrestling star Kenny Omega portraying each upcoming character.
IGN awarded Street Fighter 6 a 9/10 score in our review, praising: "Street Fighter 6 delivers the franchise's most packed launch offering yet, featuring an outstanding 18-character roster, innovative mechanics that refresh the classic fighting formula, and impeccable attention to detail that elevates the entire experience."
