Alix Wilton Regan, known for voicing the Female Inquisitor in both Dragon Age: Inquisition and Dragon Age: The Veilguard, has responded to the negative reception surrounding BioWare's latest installment. The actress attributed the "mixed reactions" to detractors who she believes "wanted to see the game fail, or wanted to see [BioWare] fail."
A Personal Perspective on the Controversy
During a recent interview with IGN discussing her iconic gaming roles — including her involvement in Microsoft's upcoming Perfect Dark reboot — Wilton Regan expressed deep disappointment over the lukewarm reception to The Veilguard. Despite generally favorable critic reviews, she noted the game failed to achieve broader popularity.
"It absolutely devastated me that BioWare received such polarized responses," Wilton Regan commented. "Personally, I considered it a strong entry that stayed true to BioWare's signature style."
"I suspect some individuals actively rooted for its failure — either due to malicious internet trolling we've unfortunately grown accustomed to, or because they held prejudices against certain creative choices."
The Nature of the Backlash
The Veilguard became review-bombed shortly after launch, primarily targeting its inclusive character options — including a non-binary companion and transgender player customization. Currently holding a "Mixed" rating on Steam, users have prominently tagged the game with "LGBTQ+" and "politics" descriptors.
"Many attacked the game sight unseen," Wilton Regan observed. "Prejudging creative work before experiencing it remains one of the most absurd behaviors in entertainment criticism."

Aftermath and Moving Forward
The controversy followed disappointing sales — publisher Electronic Arts confirmed The Veilguard underperformed by roughly 50% against projections. This coincided with high-profile departures including game director Corrine Busche and layoffs affecting other team members.
BioWare has since indicated no plans for additional Veilguard content, instead focusing resources on Mass Effect 5. The studio currently operates with a reduced team for this unannounced project.
"I'll always champion BioWare's talent," Wilton Regan concluded. "Whatever they create next will undoubtedly showcase their exceptional storytelling. We're fortunate to have more memorable experiences awaiting us from them."
