Hideki Kamiya Wants To Do Devil May Cry Remake
Devil May Cry Remake Will Not Be Made Like 24 Years Ago
The gaming industry has seen a resurgence in remakes of classic titles, with legendary games such as Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 receiving modern updates. Now, it seems that Devil May Cry might join their ranks, as its director, Hideki Kamiya, has voiced his interest in remaking the original game.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel on May 8, Kamiya engaged with fans about remakes and sequels. When posed with the question about his ideas for a DMC remake, he responded enthusiastically, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that."
First Released 2001
Originally launched in 2001, Devil May Cry was initially conceived as Resident Evil 4. However, the game's direction shifted significantly from its original concept, leading Capcom to develop it into the standalone title we know as DMC.
Reflecting on the game's creation nearly 25 years later, Kamiya revealed the personal inspiration behind it. He shared that in 2000, after experiencing a heartbreak, he channeled his emotions into the game's development, fueling the creation of DMC.
Kamiya admits he doesn't replay his games post-release, including DMC. Yet, when he occasionally encounters gameplay clips, he acknowledges the game's age and its outdated design elements. Should he take on a DMC remake, Kamiya plans to start from scratch, leveraging modern technology and contemporary game design principles.
While not currently a priority, Kamiya mentioned that he only develops ideas for projects that are actively in the works. He confidently told Capcom, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do." In addition to DMC, Kamiya also expressed interest in remaking Viewtiful Joe, sparking excitement among fans for potential revivals of these cherished games.
