NetherRealm Studios, the developers behind Mortal Kombat 1, have unveiled the first gameplay footage for the highly anticipated DLC guest character, the T-1000, and confirmed Madam Bo as an upcoming DLC Kameo fighter. The T-1000's gameplay is a nostalgic nod to the iconic scenes from Terminator 2, showcasing the character's signature blade and hook arms. Fans will notice similarities to the moves of Baraka and Kabal, while the T-1000's ability to morph into a liquid metal blob and execute an uppercut reminiscent of Killer Instinct's Glacius adds a unique twist to its fighting style.
The T-1000 in Mortal Kombat 1 is brought to life with the voice and likeness of Robert Patrick, who originally portrayed the character in the 1991 film. A teaser showcases Patrick's voice acting during a confrontation with Johnny Cage, culminating in a dramatic Fatality that recreates the memorable truck chase scene from Terminator 2, where the T-1000 emerges from the driver's seat to unleash a barrage of bullets on Cage.
Simultaneously, NetherRealm announced that Madam Bo, a fan-favorite from the base story of Mortal Kombat 1, will join the game as a DLC Kameo fighter alongside the T-1000. Known for her role as a resilient restaurant owner who stands up to Smoke and his goons, Madam Bo's brief gameplay appearance in the teaser highlights her potential as an assist character.
The T-1000 will be available in Mortal Kombat 1 starting March 18 for early access to Khaos Reigns owners, with a wider release for purchase on March 25. Madam Bo will also be available starting March 18 as a free update for Khaos Reigns owners or as a standalone purchase. The T-1000 marks the final DLC character for the Khaos Reigns expansion, joining a roster that includes Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, and Conan the Barbarian.
Amidst speculation about the future of Mortal Kombat 1 and potential plans for a Kombat Pack 3, Warner Bros. Discovery remains committed to the franchise. CEO David Zaslav emphasized in November that the company plans to focus heavily on four key titles, including Mortal Kombat. Meanwhile, Mortal Kombat development chief Ed Boon has assured fans that NetherRealm will continue to support Mortal Kombat 1 for the long term, despite having chosen their next project three years ago.
Speculation abounds regarding NetherRealm's next title, with many believing it could be the third installment in the Injustice series, following Injustice: Gods Among Us (2013) and Injustice 2 (2017). Although NetherRealm released Mortal Kombat 11 in 2019 and followed it with Mortal Kombat 1 in 2023, Boon has hinted at various factors influencing their decision-making process, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to a newer version of the Unreal game engine. Boon confirmed that while they opted for another Mortal Kombat game, the door remains open for future Injustice titles.
