Sony's Latest Patents: AI-Powered Prediction and a DualSense Gun Attachment
Sony has filed two intriguing patents aimed at enhancing the gaming experience. These patents detail an AI-powered camera system to predict player inputs and a gun-style trigger attachment for the DualSense controller.
AI-Driven Lag Reduction:
The "Timed Input/Action Release" patent describes a camera system that monitors the player and controller. AI analyzes this footage to anticipate the player's next button presses. Alternatively, the system could interpret partial controller actions to infer player intent. The goal is to proactively process inputs, mitigating online lag and improving responsiveness.
Enhanced Gunplay with a DualSense Attachment:
A second patent introduces a trigger attachment designed to transform the DualSense controller into a more realistic firearm simulation. Players would hold the controller sideways, using the space between the R1 and R2 buttons as a sight, and the attachment's trigger to mimic firing. This accessory could potentially work with the PSVR2 headset as well.
Sony's Patent Portfolio:
This isn't Sony's first foray into innovative gaming technology. With a vast patent portfolio, the company has explored concepts like skill-adaptive difficulty, a DualSense controller with integrated earbud charging, and even a temperature-adjusting controller for immersive feedback.
