The mysterious Bloodmoon Island lies to the north of Reaper's Coast, shrouded in an ominous veil of Deathfog that cuts it off from the mainland. The bridge once connecting it to the coast is destroyed, making traditional access seemingly impossible. Exploring this island not only thickens the main plot but also unlocks additional side quests in Divinity: Original Sin 2. However, the game offers little guidance on navigating past the Deathfog, leading players to scour Reaper's Coast for clues. Here’s how you can reach Bloodmoon Island and advance the story.
Spirit Vision Shows The Way
The remnants of a bridge that once linked Bloodmoon Island to Reaper's Coast are located northeast of Cloisterwood, near Jahan and Witch Alice. Upon reaching this bridge, you'll also find the Driftwood Fields waypoint. By casting Spirit Vision, you can reveal the broken sections of the bridge, which is crucial for crossing. The bridge is segmented and some parts are trapped, adding a layer of challenge to your journey. Fortunately, several strategies can ease your passage:
- Gloves of Teleportation: Acquired in the game's first act, these gloves allow you to teleport without learning the skill. They can be used to move each party member across the bridge, albeit laboriously.
- Translocation Skills: Skills such as Phoenix Dive, Cloak and Dagger, and Tactical Retreat provide teleportation capabilities. However, not all party members may possess these skills, so consider alternative methods.
- Teleporter Pyramids: These artifacts allow you to warp between them. Place one pyramid in a companion's inventory and use translocation skills to cross the bridge. Once on the other side, the rest of the party can warp to the companion's location.
- Fast Travel: A companion with translocation skills can cross the bridge, unlock the Bloodmoon Island waypoint, and allow the rest of the party to fast travel there directly.
Take The Ferry Across The Deathfog
If you have Fane in your party, you can utilize an undead-specific method to reach Bloodmoon Island. Fane, immune to Deathfog, can safely traverse it. Northwest of Cloisterwood, you'll find a pier with an undead ferryman who offers to ferry your party across the Deathfog. However, this is a deceptive offer, as it leads to the death of everyone but Fane. By having Fane take the ferry alone, he can reach the island safely, unlock the waypoint, and enable the rest of the party to fast travel to him.
Taking The Ferry Without Fane In The Party
For parties without Fane, you can still use the ferry with the help of Teleporter Pyramids:
- Unchain your party and place a Teleporter Pyramid in the inventory of a companion who will board the ferry.
- Once the ferry reaches the island, the companion will die upon arrival.
- The rest of the party, still chained, can use the second pyramid to warp to the deceased companion.
- Use a resurrection spell or scroll to revive the fallen companion.
If Fane is not in your party, crossing the bridge is the fastest and safest way to reach Bloodmoon Island.
Important Note: Avoid attacking the Undead Ferryman as he can retaliate with a Deathfog spell, causing instant death. If you decide to challenge him, quick save beforehand. Defeating him yields a Soothing Cold skillbook, an ordinary belt, and 3,750XP.
