The MCU landscape has dramatically shifted since Avengers: Endgame. The Avengers team, as we knew it, is no more. While new heroes are emerging to fill the void left by Iron Man and Captain America, a full-fledged Avengers movie remains on the horizon. Even Captain America: Brave New World avoids a complete reunion of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
It's not until Phase 6, with the back-to-back releases of Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027), that we'll witness the Avengers' triumphant return. But who will answer the call? Let's explore the likely candidates assembling in Phase 6.
Who Will Be the New Avengers in the MCU?

Wong
In the absence of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, Benedict Wong's Wong has become the MCU's unifying force throughout Phases 4 and 5. His appearances span numerous post-Endgame projects, including Spider-Man: No Way Home, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Let's not forget his hilarious camaraderie with Madisynn in She-Hulk.
With his ascension to Sorcerer Supreme, we've arguably entered the "Phase Wong" of the MCU. His proactive defense against emerging threats positions him perfectly to rally the Avengers when the time comes.
Shang-Chi
Simu Liu's Shang-Chi is a near-certain addition to the Phase 6 Avengers. His summoning by Wong in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, coupled with Destin Daniel Cretton's initial involvement with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (before directorial changes), strongly suggests significant future plans for Shang-Chi. His mastery of the Ten Rings makes him a valuable asset, and the mid-credits scene hints at a deeper mystery surrounding these artifacts, potentially crucial to Avengers: Doomsday.
Doctor Strange
While Wong is now Sorcerer Supreme, Stephen Strange's expertise in magic and the multiverse remains invaluable to the Avengers. Currently assisting Clea in another universe with the Incursion problem, his absence before Doomsday suggests a significant payoff to the Multiverse of Madness tease, potentially against Doctor Doom.
Captain America
No Avengers roster is complete without a Captain America. Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson has inherited the mantle, his journey documented in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Captain America: Brave New World. The latter film positions him as a potential leader, though his struggle to live up to Steve Rogers' legacy will likely continue in Doomsday and Secret Wars.
War Machine
Don Cheadle's War Machine, after a supporting role in previous films, is poised for a solo hero arc in the Multiverse Saga, with Armor Wars addressing the fallout from Tony Stark's technology. His experience and firepower make him a natural fit for the Avengers, filling the Iron Man-shaped hole.
Ironheart
Dominique Thorne's Riri Williams, introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is a strong contender for the MCU's new Iron Man. Her ingenuity and armor-building skills, further developed in Ironheart (2025), will be essential against powerful villains like Doom.
Spider-Man
Tom Holland's Spider-Man, despite his choice for anonymity, is likely to play a key role, unless further complications arise between Marvel and Sony. The world's forgotten identity presents a challenge, but Wong's cryptic words in No Way Home hint at a potential solution, placing him as the only one who may still know Spider-Man's secret.
She-Hulk
While Hulk's role might be more supporting, Tatiana Maslany's She-Hulk emerges as a powerhouse Avenger, combining intellect, strength, and a unique personality.
The Marvels
Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan, united in The Marvels, are likely to play crucial roles. Captain Marvel's leadership potential and the mysteries surrounding Monica and Kamala's roles suggest significant contributions to Doomsday and Secret Wars.
How Many Avengers Is Too Many?
The potential roster for Avengers: Doomsday is substantial. The comics have precedents for large teams, often splitting into smaller groups or featuring multiple co-existing teams. The MCU may adopt a similar approach.
Hawkeye & Kate Bishop
Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye, despite his recovery from an accident, may return, and Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop, hinted at joining the Avengers in The Marvels, is a strong addition.
Thor
Thor, potentially with Love, could be a key member, especially given the potential for a Thor Corps in Secret Wars.
The Ant-Man Family
Ant-Man, Wasp, and Stature's connection to the Quantum Realm and Kang makes them essential.
Star-Lord
Star-Lord's return to Earth in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 positions him for a potential role in the Avengers.
Black Panther
Shuri's leadership of Wakanda, along with M'Baku, ensures Wakanda's continued support for the Avengers.
