George R.R. Martin delighted fans with an update on his blog earlier this week, though it wasn't the news many were hoping for regarding *The Winds of Winter*. Instead, he unveiled the cover for the upcoming illustrated edition of *A Feast for Crows*, the fourth book in the *A Song of Ice and Fire* series to receive this special treatment. The artwork for this edition will be crafted by Jeffrey R. McDonald.
Mark your calendars for November 4, 2025, as that's when *A Feast for Crows: The Illustrated Edition* is slated to hit the shelves. You can secure your copy by preordering from leading book retailers such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Target, among others.

This announcement is fantastic news for collectors of the illustrated editions. It's been a five-year wait since the last illustrated edition, *A Storm of Swords*, which was released in November 2020.
In addition to the stunning illustrations, this new edition will feature a forward by Joe Abercrombie. Martin mentioned on his blog that some of the interior illustrations will be shared this spring, giving fans a sneak peek before the book's release. For those new to collecting, the first three illustrated editions of *A Song of Ice and Fire* are already available.

What About The Winds of Winter?
For those eagerly awaiting *The Winds of Winter*, the wait continues without a set release date. In a December 2024 interview, Martin hinted at the possibility that he might never complete the book in his lifetime, a sobering thought following his November 2023 update where he confirmed having written 1,100 pages.
While this lack of progress is disheartening for fans who have waited nearly 14 years, there remains hope that the series might be completed by someone else. With the fourth illustrated edition now on the horizon, it seems likely that the first five special editions will be completed before *The Winds of Winter* sees the light of day.
