Pokemon Gen 10 Leak Reveals Bold Vision

Recent leaks about the Pokemon franchise indicate that the Generation 10 games might receive dedicated releases on both the original Nintendo Switch and the next-generation Switch 2. While these games are not yet officially announced, the long-held assumption has been that they would be developed for the more powerful Switch 2 hardware.

The original Switch has already hosted both Generation 8 and Generation 9 Pokemon games, with the latter—Pokemon Scarlet and Violet—facing criticism for technical performance on the aging hardware. This led many fans to believe developer Game Freak would transition exclusively to the Switch 2 for the next generation. Newly surfaced information, however, suggests a different strategy may be in play.

According to details shared by Centro Leaks, sourced from a Game Freak data breach, the Generation 10 project, codenamed "Gaia," is primarily in development for the original Switch. Evidence of a related project dubbed "Super Gaia" has also been discovered, which appears to be a version tailored for the Switch 2. There is further speculation that "Pokemon Legends: Z-A" may also receive a native Switch 2 release alongside its Switch version.

Generation 10 Pokemon Games May Release for Original Switch

While concrete details on the Switch 2 are still scarce, Nintendo has confirmed the console will be backward compatible. This ensures Switch 2 owners will be able to play games like Generation 10 and Pokemon Legends: Z-A even without dedicated ports. The new console may run these titles more efficiently, akin to how newer PlayStation and Xbox systems enhance older games, though specific improvements remain unclear.

Presently, no official announcement has been made regarding Generation 10, so fans are advised to treat all rumors with some skepticism. The potential for more news exists with the expected Pokemon Presents event on February 27th. However, reports indicate the focus will be on games for the original Switch, not the Switch 2. If Generation 10 is indeed targeting the original platform, it could be years before the Switch 2 receives a mainline Pokemon game built specifically for its capabilities.
