Ezra Miller, the actor known for their role as The Flash in the DC Extended Universe, is reportedly considering a return to Hollywood after a period marked by public scrutiny and controversy. Following a series of allegations involving abuse, harassment, and legal troubles dating back to 2020, Miller has remained largely out of the spotlight—until recently.
Their appearance at this year’s Cannes Film Festival caught the attention of fans and media alike (via Variety). Attending the premiere of Lynne Ramsay’s latest film *Die My Love*, it was one of Miller’s most visible outings in years, hinting at a potential reentry into the entertainment industry.

Once celebrated for standout performances in films like *The Perks of Being a Wallflower* and their dual roles as Credence Barebone in the *Fantastic Beasts* franchise and Barry Allen/The Flash in multiple DC films, Miller’s career trajectory shifted dramatically. Concerns began to grow following the release of footage showing the actor appearing to choke a fan, which led to a string of incidents and growing public unease.
In 2022, Miller faced multiple arrests in Hawaii—including charges of disorderly conduct, harassment, and second-degree assault. Later that year, a felony burglary charge emerged from an incident in Vermont. In response, Miller issued a public apology, acknowledging “complex mental health issues” and expressing a commitment to returning to a more stable phase of life.
Following the April 2023 theatrical release of *The Flash*, Miller largely withdrew from public appearances. However, recent appearances at events such as Cannes and Italy’s Filming Italy Sardegna festival suggest a tentative effort to step back into the limelight. During an interview with Italian publication Lo Speciale Giornale, Miller confirmed they are exploring ways to reintegrate into the film world.
“I’ve been writing a lot because you can do that in solitude, which has been friendly to me,” Miller shared, indicating creative work as part of their path forward. They also revealed plans to collaborate again with director Lynne Ramsay on a new film project, which the pair will co-write together.
“I came to Cannes to support one of my closest friends in the world, who is Lynne Ramsay, who I think is one of the greatest living filmmakers,” Miller explained. “I’m working with her again. That will likely be the first thing I do, is a film that she and I are writing together.”
Miller acknowledged the difficulty of reentering the public eye, admitting that attending Cannes was not their idea. “I didn’t want to go to Cannes,” they said. “It was a tough reentry point.” Despite this, they expressed deep gratitude for those who stood by them during difficult times.
“We’ve become very consumed in notions of perception, self-perception, how we’re perceived in the world,” Miller added. “I really believe in digging past that and being a friend to people, and the people who did that for me, they have my lifelong devotion.”
They also reflected on the lessons learned from their time away: “Not that I don’t hold a lot of remorse and lamentation for a lot of things that I did and for a lot of things that happened in that time, but I’m really, really grateful for the lessons that came with that abyss.”
According to a report by the Los Angeles Times, the upcoming project with Ramsay is described as a vampire film, with Miller set to play the lead role. Details about further acting projects or roles remain undisclosed.
