Amazon MGM Studios has officially announced that Oscar-nominated director Denis Villeneuve will helm the next installment of the James Bond franchise.
"Some of my earliest cinema memories revolve around 007," Villeneuve shared in today's press release. "My father introduced me to the Bond universe with Sean Connery's Dr. No – I've been a devoted fan ever since. The Bond legacy deserves reverence, and I aim to honor its tradition while paving the way for exciting new missions. This opportunity is both humbling and exhilarating."
Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, praised Villeneuve as "a visionary filmmaker whose remarkable body of work stands testament to his artistry."
"Entrusting 007's next chapter to one of contemporary cinema's finest directors fills us with anticipation," Hopkins added.
Villeneuve's distinguished portfolio includes the Dune saga (winner of six Academy Awards), Blade Runner 2049, Arrival, and critically acclaimed thrillers like Sicario and Prisoners.
Earlier this year, Amazon MGM Studios finalized an agreement with franchise custodians Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, marking Amazon's transition to creative stewardship of the James Bond property.

The directorial selection process for the new Bond film spanned months, with industry speculation favoring Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front) and Kelly Marcel (Venom: The Last Dance).
While the next actor to portray Bond remains unconfirmed, one British performer has clearly captured the audience's imagination. Villeneuve meanwhile prepares to conclude his Dune trilogy before embarking on this iconic mission.
