Firaxis Games has decided to delay the first in-game event for Civilization 7 in order to focus on essential quality-of-life (QoL) improvements. This decision was announced in their latest update check-in on February 28, 2025, accompanied by a Development Roadmap that outlines future enhancements for the game.
Civilization 7 Prioritizes Quality of Life Improvements
The first in-game event, titled "Natural Wonder Battle," initially slated for the upcoming Update 1.1.0 on March 4, 2025, has been postponed. Firaxis Games explained, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Since its early access phase, Civilization 7 has received mixed reviews, with particular criticism aimed at the game’s user interface (UI). Acknowledging this feedback, Firaxis Games stated, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They further emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement, saying, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
Update 1.1.0 to Address Community Feedback
Update 1.1.0, scheduled for release on March 4, 2025, across PC and consoles (with a separate release for Nintendo Switch), will focus on addressing community suggestions and feedback. While the full update notes will be available at release, Firaxis has provided a preview of what players can expect.
A new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, will be added for players to explore at no extra cost. Additionally, much-anticipated UI adjustments will be implemented to address player concerns. The update will also bring significant changes to the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and Victory, with AI leaders being better equipped to achieve a Cultural Victory.
Alongside these improvements, the first part of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will be released. Firaxis noted, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."
Next Major Update Scheduled for March 25, 2025
The next major update for Civilization 7 is set for March 25, 2025, although this date may be subject to change. This update will continue to enhance the game’s UI, as Firaxis emphasized, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."
Looking beyond March, Civilization 7 plans to roll out further improvements and refinements. These include the addition of a "one more turn" feature allowing players to continue past the end of the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), updates to multiplayer support, and more.
Firaxis stated, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
