Russian Checkers 8×8

In Russian Checkers, the game begins with white making the first move. Here are the key rules:

• Checkers move exclusively on dark squares
• A capture is mandatory if possible
• Capturing can occur in both forward and backward directions
• Kings have the freedom to move and capture on any square along a diagonal
• The Turkish strike rule applies, allowing only one capture per move
• With multiple capture options, you may choose any, not just the longest
• Upon reaching the opponent's edge, a checker becomes a king and can immediately play as a king if possible

A draw is declared under these conditions:

• If a player with checkers and three or more kings against one opponent's king cannot capture within 15 moves after the balance of forces is set
• If in a king-only position, no progress (no captures, no new kings) is made over 30 moves in 4-5 piece endings, or 60 moves in 6-7 piece endings
• If a player with three checkers (in any combination) against one opponent's king on the "high road" fails to capture within five moves
• If 15 moves are made solely with kings without moving any simple checkers or capturing
• If the same position repeats three or more times with the same player to move

International Checkers 10×10

International Checkers also starts with white moving first. The rules include:

• Checkers move only on dark squares
• Capturing is mandatory if possible
• Capturing is allowed in both forward and backward directions
• Kings can move and capture on any square along a diagonal
• The Turkish strike rule is in effect, allowing only one capture per move
• The majority rule applies, requiring the capture of the maximum number of checkers if multiple options exist
• A simple checker reaching the opponent's edge during a capture continues as a checker, not becoming a king until its move ends
• A simple checker becomes a king upon reaching the opponent's edge by a move or capture, but will play as a king on the next move
