Zenless Zone Zero's gameplay revolves around exploring the Ether-corrupted Hollows, where players, known as Proxies, team up with Agents to uncover treasures and valuable resources. These Agents, possessing exceptional Ether Aptitudes, hail from diverse backgrounds, including Hollow Raiders, corporations, private institutions, and government agencies.

Initially, Agents were categorized by Attack Type. However, HoYoverse refined the system, introducing distinct roles for each Agent while retaining their Attack Type in their individual stats.
