The ESRB rating for Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, releasing this September, reveals a surprising twist: Princess Zelda's first starring role will also feature Link as a playable character.
Zelda and Link: A Dual Protagonist Adventure
The ESRB listing confirms both Zelda and Link are playable protagonists. The game, rated E 10+, is free of microtransactions. The description highlights Zelda's quest to seal rifts across Hyrule and rescue Link. Gameplay mechanics show Zelda wielding a magic wand to summon creatures for combat (wind-up knights, pig soldiers, slime), while Link utilizes his classic sword and arrows. Enemy defeat methods vary, with some combusting and others dissolving into mist.
This marks a monumental shift for the Zelda franchise, making Princess Zelda the protagonist for the first time. Unsurprisingly, Echoes of Wisdom quickly became a highly anticipated title following its summer showcase reveal.
The extent of Link's playability remains undisclosed. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom launches September 26th, 2024.
Hyrule Edition Switch Lite: Pre-orders Open!
To coincide with the game's release, Nintendo offers a special Hyrule Edition Switch Lite, available for pre-order. This golden-colored console, adorned with the Hyrule crest and a Triforce symbol, includes a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription for $49.99 (the game is not included).
