Witcher 4 Players Will Experience New Regions and Monsters

Revealed the Names of the Village and Monster from the Reveal Trailer

A recent interview with Gamertag Radio’s co-host Parris featuring The Witcher 4 game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga, conducted after The Game Awards 2024 on December 14, 2024, revealed that the upcoming game will introduce new regions and monsters.

While Ciri may be following Geralt's footsteps as a Witcher, her travels will take players to new regions of The Continent. Kalemba shared that the village featured in the trailer is "Stromford," where the inhabitants sacrifice young girls as a means to appease their "god."

Moreover, Kalemba also revealed that the "god" the villagers revere in the trailer is a monster called "Bauk," which draws inspiration from Serbian mythology. This monster, as described by Kalemba, is a "tricky, tricky, tricky bastard" that evokes fear in its prey. Aside from the "Bauk," players will encounter "plenty of new monsters" to battle in the game.

Though Kalemba is quite excited to talk about the new regions and monsters of The Witcher 4, he remains tightlipped for now. "You are there on The Continent, but you’re experiencing something completely new, which is amazing, and I cannot wait to actually show it to you, but I cannot tell you more right now."

In a separate interview with Skill UP on December 15, 2024, Kalemba and Mitręga also confirmed that the map size of Witcher 4 will be "more or less" similar to that of The Witcher 3. Considering that "Stromford" is located in the "far North" of The Continent, it seems Ciri might be traveling and solving monster-related problems beyond what Geralt explored.

Pushing the Boundaries of The Witcher 4’s NPCs

Going back to the Gamertag Radio interview, Kalemba revealed that they are pushing the boundaries of NPCs in The Witcher 4.

Parris, Gamertag Radio’s co-host, mentioned that The Witcher 3 reuses a lot of NPC character models in the game and pointed out that the new trailer for The Witcher 4 shows "a lot of diversity," to which Kalemba responded that they are working on making “every single NPC” live their lives and have "their own story." Kalemba also asserted that the idea of people living in an isolated village know one another, and this might affect how each NPC interacts with Ciri and others.

Additionally, CD Projekt Red is also improving NPC character models by improving the quality of how they look, behave, and displaying facial expressions. "We want to make an even more immersive experience than we used to," Kalemba added.

Though not much information has been revealed, it indicates that players will have better NPC interaction and might even see them interact with each other in more immersive ways.
