According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has decided to cancel an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned expansion was set to release this year alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, Warner Bros. pulled the plug on the project this week, citing concerns that "the amount of content was not substantial enough to justify the price being considered," as per Bloomberg's sources. The company declined to comment on the report.
This decision comes amidst Warner Bros.' ongoing efforts to restructure its gaming division in response to financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company canceled its planned Wonder Woman game and shut down the studio behind it, Monolith Productions, along with WB San Diego and the MultiVersus studio, Player First Games. Additionally, Warner Bros. laid off employees at Rocksteady as recently as last September.
Despite the cancellation of the Hogwarts Legacy DLC, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise as key assets. The company has stated that a sequel to the game is "one of the biggest priorities," reflecting its strategy to focus on fewer but larger franchises. The initial release of Hogwarts Legacy has been a massive success, selling over 30 million copies.
