After less than a year on the market, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is facing an abrupt conclusion. Activision has officially announced that the mobile iteration of the acclaimed battle royale game will no longer receive seasonal updates or new content. As of May 18th, the game has been removed from both the App Store and Google Play Store. Additionally, real-money transactions have been disabled, and those who missed the installation deadline will be unable to access the game.
This marks a surprising end for what was meant to be a significant expansion of the Warzone universe, tailored for mobile-first audiences. Despite Activision's efforts to faithfully replicate the Warzone experience on mobile devices, the game reportedly did not resonate with mobile players to the same extent as its PC and console counterparts.
For those who have already installed Warzone Mobile, online access remains available post-May 19th. Players can continue to engage in matchmaking and online play, though social features have been disabled. There is no set timeline for server closures yet. The in-game store is still accessible to spend existing COD Points, but no new purchases can be made.
As a gesture of goodwill, players with remaining COD Points can transfer them to Call of Duty: Mobile. Until August 15th, by logging into Call of Duty: Mobile with the same Activision account, players will receive double the value of their unused Warzone Mobile COD Points, along with additional rewards.
For those yet to install or reinstall the game by May 19th, this is the final opportunity. Post this date, no refunds will be available, and the game will become inaccessible. This serves as a stark reminder that even major franchises can struggle to maintain long-term success on mobile platforms.
