Switch 2 Rumor Fuels Nintendo

Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025

Following the emergence of Switch 2 images from CES 2025, Nintendo issued a rare public statement. A company representative confirmed that Nintendo did not officially participate in CES 2025, therefore, any Switch 2 imagery originating from the event is unofficial. While a seemingly obvious statement, this marks an unusual level of engagement from Nintendo regarding product leaks.

Leaks surrounding the Switch 2 have been prevalent since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Accessory manufacturer Genki displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025, sparking widespread online discussion. Nintendo's statement, made in response to an inquiry from the Sankei Shimbun, directly addressed these images and videos, labeling them "not official."

Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?

Nintendo offered no opinion on the accuracy of Genki's replica. However, the replica aligns with previous leaks and rumors, suggesting potential validity. The most significant difference from the original Switch is its size—slightly larger—and the addition of a new button below the right Joy-Con's home button, labeled "C." The function of this button remains unknown.

Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, while unable to clarify the "C" button's purpose, shared additional alleged details. He indicated that the Switch 2's Joy-Cons will use magnetic attachments instead of sliding rails and that they may function as mouse controllers, corroborating previous reports.

Nintendo's Timeline and Pricing

Nintendo previously stated that a Switch successor would be revealed during its fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, the company still has time to fulfill this promise. Retail availability is anticipated no earlier than the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
