Square Enix RPG Brings Delightful Return to Switch

Triangle Strategy Returns to Nintendo Switch eShop

RPG enthusiasts can celebrate! Triangle Strategy, the acclaimed Square Enix title, is once again available on the Nintendo Switch eShop after a temporary removal. This follows a brief period where the game was unavailable for purchase and download.

The popular tactical RPG, praised for its return to classic Square Enix gameplay, has been a noteworthy release for the developer. Drawing comparisons to franchises like Fire Emblem, Triangle Strategy emphasizes strategic unit placement and maximizing damage in turn-based combat.

Following a short absence, Square Enix announced the game's return to the eShop via Twitter. While the reason for the delisting remains unconfirmed, speculation points to Square Enix's recent acquisition of publishing rights from Nintendo.

This isn't the first time a Square Enix title has experienced a temporary eShop absence; Octopath Traveler faced a similar situation last year. However, Triangle Strategy's return was significantly quicker, lasting only four days compared to Octopath Traveler's several-week hiatus.

The game's reappearance is welcome news for Nintendo Switch owners who enjoy Square Enix's titles. This further highlights the strong ongoing relationship between the two companies, demonstrated by past collaborations such as the Nintendo Switch exclusive release of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series (before its wider release on other platforms).

Square Enix's history of console-exclusive releases stretches back to the original Final Fantasy on the NES. While their releases now span multiple platforms, exclusivity remains a part of their strategy, as seen with the PlayStation 5 exclusive Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the initial Nintendo Switch exclusivity of the definitive version of Dragon Quest XI.
