A new report confirms that Netflix is developing a live-action Dungeons & Dragons television series.
According to Deadline, *The Forgotten Realms* is in development under *Deadpool & Wolverine* director Shawn Levy, with writer-showrunner Drew Crevello (WeCrashed) and Hasbro also attached.
The Forgotten Realms is the primary fantasy setting for the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. It served as the backdrop for the film *Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves* and Larian Studios' blockbuster video game, *Baldur's Gate 3*.
The outlet described this "potential" D&D project as "one of Netflix's biggest TV bets in the fantasy space to date." While Crevello reportedly wrote the pilot and is acting as showrunner, both Netflix and Hasbro have declined to comment.
"After lengthy negotiations, which is not unusual for an IP of that caliber, I hear the fantasy series is now set at the streamer for further development," Deadline's Nellie Andreeva reported. "In success, it could launch a D&D universe, I hear."
While this live-action Dungeons & Dragons series appears to have a solid path forward, there is no update regarding a sequel to *Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves*. The film, while beloved by fans, underperformed at the box office for Paramount Pictures.
In November 2023, star Chris Pine expressed his desire to return for a sequel and said he was "pretty confident" it would happen, but there has been no official announcement since.
Paramount CEO Brian Robbins stated he is open to another Dungeons & Dragons movie on one condition: the sequel must have a lower budget. "We've got to figure out a way to make it for less," he explained.
In the meantime, Amazon's Secret Level anthology series has featured a D&D animated installment.
