Since its record-breaking release last year, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has been transformed by the incredible efforts of its modding community. The latest achievement from this passionate group is nothing short of groundbreaking.

Tom, known in the community as Warhammer Workshop and the mastermind behind the acclaimed Astartes Overhaul mod for Space Marine 2, has just released a 12-player co-op mode. The gameplay footage is stunning, showcasing a group of players engaging a Tyranid Trygon Prime in a battle that feels like an epic MMO boss fight.

“Honestly, I’m just kind of in awe of Saber’s support for the modding community,” Tom shared with IGN. “None of us expected 12-player PvE sessions to be possible this soon — but somehow, here we are. Thanks to their generosity and trust, this huge leap forward is finally here, and it completely changes what we can do.”

It’s important to note that the current mod is still in a testing phase, but it’s already functioning impressively. The 12-player co-op mode significantly alters the game's PvE balance, given the increased number of players facing off against the Tyranids and the Thousand Sons.

With 12-player co-op now a reality, modders are hard at work creating new features to maximize this potential. Tom revealed to IGN that the team is developing various modes, including prop hunt, PvP within operations, expansive updates for the upcoming official horde mode, and highly anticipated raid-style missions. These missions will feature formidable bosses and require intense teamwork, alongside introducing entirely new mechanics.

The Space Marine 2 modding community has blossomed, with over 20,000 enthusiasts collaborating in the main Discord server.

“As both a modder and a player, it’s hard not to be excited,” Tom added. “Huge credit as always to the Saber team for not just making all this possible, but continuing to drop amazing content of their own too, without any of the usual predatory battle-pass nonsense we take for granted in modern titles.”
