The anticipation builds as the teaser trailer for the upcoming sci-fi action sequel, Predator: Badlands, has just been released online. This sneak peek introduces us to Elle Fanning's character, who seems to inhabit a perilous future on a remote planet. However, the Predator she encounters is unlike any we've seen before—potentially taking on the role of the protagonist. The teaser boldly declares, “The director of Prey welcomes you to a world of pain,” setting the stage for an intense cinematic experience.
In addition to showcasing this new type of Predator, the trailer includes nods to the Alien universe, sparking speculation that Badlands might be setting the stage for a new Aliens vs Predator film. Notably, Fanning's character exhibits the iconic Weyland Yutani reboot effect seen in Alien: Romulus, hinting that she might be a synthetic being. A glimpse of the Weyland Yutani logo, emblematic of the malevolent corporation central to the Alien franchise, is also visible on a damaged vehicle.
The film, announced in February 2024 and slated for release on November 7, 2025, had its trailer debut at CinemaCon earlier this month, marking the first time fans could see what's in store. 20th Century Studios also unveiled an official synopsis: “In the future on a remote planet, a young Predator, outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.”
Elle Fanning shared intriguing details about her role at CinemaCon, saying, "Something unprecedented happens in this movie. My character is not the one being chased. My character actually teams up with the Predator. And you get to see him in a completely new light. And... I'll stop there!"
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, renowned for 10 Cloverfield Lane and the Predator prequel Prey, Predator: Badlands was co-written by Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison. This film promises to deliver a fresh perspective on the iconic franchise when it premieres in theaters on November 7, 2025.
