Next Pokemon Presents Event May Be Disappointing for Switch 2

Pokémon Presents on February 27th: No Switch 2 Pokémon Titles Expected

Don't hold your breath for any Switch 2 Pokémon game announcements during the upcoming Pokémon Presents on February 27th. While leaks suggest an imminent Switch 2 reveal, it appears the Pokémon franchise will remain on the original Switch for the time being. The focus of the February 27th presentation is highly anticipated to be on Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

Although a next-generation Nintendo console is confirmed and will boast backward compatibility, details remain scarce, primarily gleaned from leaks suggesting a more powerful, larger iteration of the original Switch. While future Pokémon titles are undoubtedly destined for the Switch 2, insider reports indicate that the February 27th showcase will highlight games currently in development for the original Switch—all playable on the new console thanks to its backward compatibility.

Pokémon Presents: Focus on Existing Titles and Legends: Z-A

The upcoming Pokémon Presents will likely feature updates on ongoing live-service titles like Pokémon GO and Pokémon Trading Card Game Live. Significant attention is expected to be given to Pokémon Legends: Z-A, slated for release on the original Switch this year. While a teaser trailer showcased Lumiose City, returning Pokémon, and the return of Mega Evolutions, much remains undisclosed. Speculation also points to another main series Pokémon game launching this year, separate from Legends: Z-A and Generation 10.

Potential for Original Switch Releases: History Repeating Itself?

Rumors suggest the possibility of Pokémon Black and White remakes, or a new Let's Go installment, both slated for the original Switch. If these leaks prove accurate, the first Pokémon titles exclusive to the Switch 2 would likely be the Generation 10 games. This strategy aligns with past practices; similarly, Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 were released for the original DS rather than the 3DS.

Ultimately, official confirmation awaits the February 27th Pokémon Presents. Until then, manage expectations regarding Switch 2 Pokémon game announcements.
