Pokécology: An Official Encyclopedia of Pokémon Behavior and Ecology
Coming to Japan June 2025
The Pokémon Company partners with Japanese publisher Shogakukan to release an authoritative guide to Pokémon behavior and ecosystems. Shogakukan confirmed Pokécology's Japanese launch date as June 18, 2025 through their official website announcement on April 21.
Japanese retailers are now accepting pre-orders for the encyclopedia, priced at ¥1,430 (including tax). While no international release has been confirmed yet, Pokémon's global fanbase can likely anticipate translated editions following the Japanese publication.
Exploring Pokémon Ecosystems
This unprecedented encyclopedia will analyze Pokémon through scientific lenses, documenting their dietary habits, sleep patterns, physiological traits, and environmental interactions.
The project brings together prominent animal behavior specialists and ecological researchers from the University of Tokyo. Ecologist Yoshinari Yonehara spearheaded the wild Pokémon research as lead author, while acclaimed scientific illustrator Chihiro Kino contributes full-color Pokémon renderings.
While previous Pokémon publications have covered battle statistics and game strategies, this marks the franchise's first deep dive into Pokémon biology and habitats. The encyclopedia promises to offer fans - especially younger audiences - unprecedented insights into their favorite creatures' natural behaviors.
