Pirate Software Expelled from OnlyFangs WoW Guild Following Dire Maul Incident
Following a disastrous Dire Maul North run resulting in Hardcore character deaths, streamer Pirate Software has been removed from the prominent World of Warcraft guild, OnlyFangs. The incident, which occurred on the recently launched Anniversary servers, has sparked considerable controversy within the streaming community.
The addition of Dire Maul to the Anniversary servers, a feature that revitalized the Classic WoW scene after the August 2023 launch of official Hardcore servers (which initially saw a decline in popularity), has led to numerous Hardcore player deaths. This latest incident involved the deaths of Sara and Snupy, directly attributed to Pirate Software's actions.
Guild Master Sodapoppin announced Pirate Software's expulsion via a Discord statement, citing widespread guild member discomfort following the deaths. The incident unfolded when the OnlyFangs group pulled aggro on a boss before clearing a pack of Gordok ogres. Despite a call to reset the encounter, Pirate Software abandoned the group during the escape, resulting in the fatalities. While typically OnlyFangs would have employed a less severe penalty, Pirate Software's refusal to accept responsibility exacerbated the situation. A video detailing the incident (containing strong language) is available online.
The primary criticism leveled against Pirate Software centers on his failure to utilize crowd control abilities, specifically Blizzard rank 1, to mitigate the threat. Sodapoppin's post-run review highlighted this missed opportunity. Further allegations, from members like Mizkif, suggest Pirate Software issued threats to fellow streamers following the incident. Pirate Software subsequently responded on Twitter, expressing dissatisfaction with the guild's handling of the situation.
OnlyFangs, having experienced numerous member departures since its reformation on the Doomhowl Anniversary server, may see further fragmentation as players form new groups. With Blizzard's commitment to Vanilla-accurate patching, the potential for future Hardcore deaths remains high as new content is introduced.
