Path of Exile 1 Update Delayed Indefinitely Due to Path of Exile 2 Issues
Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has issued an apology to Path of Exile (PoE) 1 players for the indefinite delay of the 3.26 update. The update, initially slated for late October 2024 and then mid-February 2025, has been postponed due to the unexpected challenges encountered with the launch of Path of Exile 2.
GGG had previously committed to supporting PoE 1 alongside the release of PoE 2. However, the PoE 1 team was reassigned to assist with PoE 2's endgame development before its December launch. While GGG initially believed they could return to PoE 1's 3.26 update in time for its February target, the unforeseen extent of PoE 2's launch issues—including crashes and balance problems—prevented this.
In a video message, game director Jonathan Rogers acknowledged the studio's miscalculation: "We were fooling ourselves," he admitted, explaining that prioritizing PoE 2's stability was necessary given its critical state. The delay extends beyond the initial few weeks of PoE 2's release.
Rogers expressed sincere regret for the situation, stating, "I’m really sorry for how this went down. I should have predicted this outcome and resisted the decision to pull the PoE 1 team. We were overconfident." He emphasized that GGG is learning to manage two games concurrently and is developing a plan for the eventual release of PoE 1's 3.26 update, though no release date is currently available.
PoE 2 launched on December 6th, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, achieving significant success and ranking as one of Steam's most-played games.
