Path of Exile 2: Unveiling Burning Monolith

The Burning Monolith: A Path of Exile 2 Endgame Challenge

The Burning Monolith, a unique map location in Path of Exile 2's Atlas of Worlds, presents a challenging endgame encounter. Similar to the Realmgate, it's found near the starting area of your mapping journey, but accessing it requires significant effort.

Unlocking the Burning Monolith

To activate the Burning Monolith, you need three Crisis Fragments, each obtained by conquering a Citadel. Citadels are exceptionally rare and difficult map nodes within the Atlas. Your first attempt to activate the Monolith initiates the "Pinnacle of Flame" quest, with sub-quests for the Iron, Copper, and Stone Citadels. Completing these Citadels yields the necessary Crisis Fragments. Once you possess all three, use them at the Monolith's altar to unlock the fight against the Arbiter of Ash.

The Arbiter of Ash: A Formidable Foe

Be prepared! The Arbiter of Ash is the game's toughest pinnacle boss, boasting devastating attacks and a massive health pool. Ensure your character build is optimized before engaging this formidable opponent.

Locating the Elusive Citadels

Finding the Iron, Copper, and Stone Citadels is the true challenge. Each Citadel houses a unique boss, dropping a corresponding Crisis Fragment. Citadel attempts are one-time only.

The Atlas's random generation makes Citadel locations unpredictable. While no guaranteed method exists, these strategies may increase your chances:

  1. Directional Exploration: Choose a direction on the Atlas and systematically explore until you locate a Citadel. Unlocking Towers provides a broader view of the map.
  2. Following Corruption: Focus on map nodes exhibiting corruption, often found at the Atlas's edges. Clear these nodes, unlock nearby Towers, and repeat. This strategy complements directional exploration.
  3. Clustered Appearance: Anecdotal evidence suggests Citadels sometimes appear in clusters. Finding one might lead you to the others.

Citadel hunting is a late-game activity. Only undertake this when your build is fully optimized and boss encounters are routine.

Alternative Acquisition of Crisis Fragments

Crisis Fragments, the key to accessing the Burning Monolith, can be purchased via the in-game trading website or Currency Exchange. While expensive due to their rarity, buying them might be preferable to the arduous hunt.
