Palworld's latest update, version 0.5.0, introduces a host of exciting features, including crossplay across all platforms. This update allows players to experience seamless gameplay with friends, regardless of their chosen device. One of the standout additions is the ability to store Pal data in the Global Palbox and transfer Pals between different worlds, enhancing the game's connectivity and flexibility.
The update also introduces the Dimensional Pal Storage, which offers a massive 10 times the capacity of the standard Palbox. This new system is not only accessible to guild members but can also be set to private, providing players with a versatile storage solution. Additionally, players can now enjoy a cosmetic armor system, allowing them to change their character's appearance without impacting their armor stats. This feature, accessible via the Antique Dresser, adds a new layer of customization to the game.
Other notable additions include a Photo Mode, which lets players capture stunning in-game screenshots, and a Drafting Table that enables the combination of low-rarity blueprints to create higher-rarity ones. Dedicated servers for Mac users have also been added, ensuring a smoother experience for those on Apple's platform.
Developer Pocketpair has confirmed they are working on dedicated servers for the PlayStation 5 version, which will be released in the future. Since its early access launch in January 2024, Palworld has attracted an astounding 32 million players. The studio has outlined an ambitious content roadmap for 2025, promising an "ending scenario" and more new content for this popular creature-catching survival game.
Palworld launched on Steam for $30 and was simultaneously available on Xbox and PC through Game Pass, breaking sales and concurrent player records. Pocketpair's CEO, Takuro Mizobe, admitted that the game's launch was so successful that the developer struggled to handle the massive profits. Capitalizing on this success, Pocketpair signed a deal with Sony to create Palworld Entertainment, aimed at expanding the game's IP and bringing it to the PS5.
However, looming over Palworld's success is a lawsuit from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, who allege that Palworld has infringed on multiple patent rights. They are seeking an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages. In response, Pocketpair has adjusted how players summon Pals in the game and vowed to defend their position in court.
