Nioh 3 Arrives in Early 2026
A Limited-Time Demo Launches Now!

During the showcase, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja formally announced Nioh 3, the next chapter in their beloved dark fantasy action RPG series. The reveal trailer gave fans a first look and confirmed an early 2026 launch. The biggest surprise was a limited-time Nioh 3 demo, released exclusively on PlayStation 5 immediately following the show.
This demo will be accessible from today, June 4, until June 18. As mentioned in Team Ninja's PlayStation Blog post, "This is your opportunity to experience our work-in-progress and help shape the final game. We value your feedback as we strive to perfect the definitive Nioh experience!" Players are invited to submit their thoughts via an official survey after completing the demo.
The series' return has been highly anticipated by fans since the original Nioh launched in 2017 and its acclaimed sequel followed in 2020. Now, Team Ninja is ready to push the action RPG genre forward again. Team Ninja head and general producer Fumihiko Yasuda shared the team's excitement, inviting both series veterans and new players to discover the "thrill of overcoming relentless challenges."
What to Expect in Nioh 3

As detailed in the press release, Nioh 3 takes place during Japan's turbulent Sengoku period. This time, players step into the role of the legendary Tokugawa Ieyasu, one of the nation's most important historical figures. In the trailer, however, he introduces himself by his childhood name, Takechiyo.
Takechiyo, the master strategist who founded the Tokugawa shogunate that ruled Japan for over 250 years, is the central figure. While the full story remains under wraps, the game will chronicle his rise to power amid civil war and constant supernatural threats from yokai. Yasuda teased, "What drives his war against the yokai? We'll save that story for another time."
A significant new feature is the introduction of an "open field," moving beyond the more linear levels of past Nioh games. Players will face unexpected yokai encounters, investigate villages hiding dark secrets, and brave the trials of a new area called The Crucible. What exactly awaits in The Crucible is still a mystery.

Even though you play as a famous historical figure, the demo includes "the popular character creator from the previous game," allowing you to design your own unique hero.
The combat system now lets you freely switch between two distinct styles: Samurai and Ninja. The Samurai style delivers the intense, close-quarters combat that series fans know, enhanced by new mechanics like "Arts Proficiency" for skill mastery and "Deflect" for perfect parries.
The Ninja style emphasizes agility, focusing on evasive maneuvers and aerial combat. Players can utilize various "Ninjutsu" techniques while airborne. Skills such as "Mist," which leaves a decoy after attacking, and "Evade," for last-second dodges, allow players to outwit enemies and strike from vulnerable positions.

More information will be revealed as we get closer to launch, but the available demo offers the perfect preview. For continuous coverage and the latest Nioh 3 news, explore our related articles below.
