Nintendo Unveils Zelda Movie Release Date via New App

Author : Adam Update:May 15,2025

Nintendo has officially announced that the much-anticipated live-action The Legend of Zelda movie will hit theaters on March 26, 2027. This exciting news was shared through the newly launched Nintendo Today! app, which was introduced during the Nintendo Direct in March 2025. While no additional details about the film were disclosed, the announcement has already generated significant buzz among fans.

The reveal was made by video game icon Shigeru Miyamoto as a surprising addition to the Nintendo Direct showcase. The Nintendo Today! app is designed to be a comprehensive resource for Nintendo enthusiasts, offering a daily calendar and a continuous stream of news updates. Miyamoto highlighted that following the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct next week, fans can use the app to stay informed about all the latest developments, with new content being added daily.

The announcement of the The Legend of Zelda movie's release date has sparked a rush to download the Nintendo Today! app, as fans eagerly anticipate more major announcements. It's notable that the news broke on the app before being shared on Nintendo's social media platforms, underscoring the app's importance as a primary source of information for fans.

Back in November 2023, Nintendo and Sony Pictures announced their collaboration on the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie. Wes Ball, known for directing The Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is set to helm the project, with Avi Arad and Shigeru Miyamoto as producers. While specifics about the movie remain scarce, Ball has expressed his vision for the film as a "live action Miyazaki," aiming to capture the essence of the beloved filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki's work. He plans for a "serious" adaptation that feels authentic and intends to minimize the use of motion capture, opting for a more grounded approach.
