Genki at CES 2025: A Closer Look at the Nintendo Switch 2

Genki, known for its gaming accessories, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing key details about the upcoming console. The mockup, reportedly based on a black market unit, accurately reflects the Switch 2's dimensions, showcasing a larger size than its predecessor, approaching the dimensions of Valve's Steam Deck.

Key features observed on the mockup include seemingly magnetic Joy-Con controllers, a second USB-C port, and a mysterious "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge, explaining a mechanism using pins and a release button to detach the controllers. Despite the magnetic connection, the Joy-Con remain securely attached during gameplay.

More Switch 2 Details from Genki:

The Joy-Con's mounting channels incorporate optical sensors, hinting at potential new functionalities, possibly mouse-like control via a yet-to-be-released accessory. Leaked images appear to corroborate the presence of these sensors.

Interestingly, while the Switch 2 is slim enough to physically fit into the existing Switch dock, design differences prevent compatibility. Genki remains unsure about the purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button.
