Nintendo is prepared to combat Switch 2 launch shortages and scalpers, stating, "We are making preparations." Following its latest financial report, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa addressed concerns about a repeat of the original Switch's 2017 launch shortages. He assured Nikkei, as translated by VGC, that Nintendo will implement comprehensive strategies based on past experiences to mitigate scalping and supply issues.
These preparations likely involve significantly increasing Switch 2 production. Last year, Nintendo highlighted sufficient manufacturing as crucial to counter scalpers. The original Switch's limited supply in March 2017 fueled inflated prices from scalpers. However, Furukawa confirmed in July 2024 that the Switch 2 launch will be different, emphasizing sufficient production to meet demand. He added that while component shortages impacted Switch production previously, this issue is now resolved.
A Switch 2 Direct is planned for April 2nd, with further details and global hands-on events to follow.
Furukawa also addressed declining Switch sales, dismissing the notion that consumers are delaying purchases in anticipation of the Switch 2. He described the Switch's eighth year as "solid," though short of targets. Nintendo will continue supporting the original Switch as long as demand exists, with Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond slated for 2025 release.
