MultiVersus's story is a cautionary tale for the gaming industry, a stark reminder of ambitious projects that falter. However, the game's final chapter is now being written, with the revelation of the last two characters joining the roster: Lola Bunny and Aquaman.
This announcement comes against a backdrop of fan frustration, some of which has unfortunately devolved into threats against the development team. MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh addressed this concerning behavior directly, pleading with players to refrain from targeting the team with threats.
Huynh issued an apology to fans whose desired characters didn't make it into the game, expressing hope that they'll find enjoyment in the final Season 5 content. He clarified that character selection involves numerous complex factors, and his personal influence is less than many players may believe.
Following the shutdown announcement, some players expressed anger over their inability to spend in-game tokens on the new characters—a promised perk for buyers of the premium $100 edition. This unfulfilled promise may have contributed to the escalation of negative reactions.
