The developers behind Marvel Rivals have exciting plans to keep the game vibrant and engaging for players. Starting from Season 3, they will introduce new heroes every month, alongside shortening the duration of seasons from three to two months. This strategic shift aims to maintain the game's freshness and excitement that fans have enjoyed since its launch.
New Heroes Every Month
NetEase, the game's developer, announced this dynamic change during their Dev Vision Vol. 05 on April 4. Creative Director Guangguang and Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong detailed how this approach will allow for a more frequent introduction of new characters, responding to community feedback and social media discussions. Guangguang emphasized, "After extensive internal discussions and thorough evaluation, we’ve decided that starting from Season 3, the seasons will shift to a two-month format, with a new hero debuting each month."
This ambitious plan could see up to 12 new heroes added to Marvel Rivals each year. While this presents a significant challenge in terms of balancing, Guangguang has reassured players that the team is equipped to handle it. In a previous interview with PC Gamer on March 14, he highlighted the importance of data-driven balancing, stating, "This data serves as the foundation for our balancing efforts."
Season 2 Details and Future Plans
Season 2, dubbed the Hellfire Gala, introduces Emma Frost, an X-Men villain with telepathic powers and the ability to transform objects into diamonds. She joins the game as a Vanguard, inviting Marvel Heroes to the Mutant haven of the Living Island Krakoa. The season trailer showcases new skins for characters like Luna Snow, Magneto, Cloak and Dagger, and Black Panther, all dressed in elegant formal wear, reflecting the opulence of the Hellfire Club.
Midway through Season 2, Ultron, another iconic Marvel villain, will make his entrance in Season 2.5. The Hellfire Gala event is set to be disrupted by a swarm of Ultron robots, hinting at an intense battle to prevent the onset of the Age of Ultron.
Thor’s Lord of Asgard and Hawkeye’s Ronin Skins Available Now!
Marvel Rivals also announced the immediate availability of new skins for Thor and Hawkeye. Thor's Lord of Asgard skin is inspired by his revival by Odin in the comics, while Hawkeye's Ronin skin reflects his time as a vigilante samurai. The Thor Rune King bundle includes the Rune King costume, spray, nameplate, The Omniscient MVP, and Well of Mimir emote. Meanwhile, the Hawkeye Ronin bundle offers the Ronin skin, spray, nameplate, Deadly Rain MVP, and Hone to Perfection emote.
