Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in Madame Web, is set to star in the upcoming movie adaptation of the popular video game Split Fiction. The film is being brought to life by Story Kitchen, the same company behind the successful Sonic films, which is currently assembling the creative team. Wicked director Jon M. Chu is at the helm, and the screenplay is being penned by the talented duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, known for their work on Deadpool & Wolverine. With this impressive lineup, Story Kitchen is now shopping the project around to Hollywood studios, anticipating a competitive bidding war.
While it's confirmed that Sweeney will be part of the cast, the role she will play—either Zoe or Mio—remains undecided. Split Fiction, developed by Hazelight and designer Josef Fares, has been a massive hit since its launch in March, selling over 2 million copies in its first week and being selected as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. IGN's review lauded the game with a 9/10 score, describing it as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another, Split Fiction is a rollercoaster of constantly refreshed gameplay ideas and styles – and one that’s very hard to walk away from."

Hazelight's success isn't limited to Split Fiction; their other game, It Takes Two, which sold 23 million copies, is also slated for a movie adaptation, with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson potentially starring. While there's always a chance these projects may not materialize, the current wave of successful video game adaptations suggests Hollywood is eager to capitalize on these beloved titles.
Story Kitchen's portfolio extends beyond Split Fiction. Last year, they announced a film adaptation of Square Enix's Just Cause, with Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto on board. They are also working on adaptations of Dredge: The Movie, Kingmakers, Sleeping Dogs, and even a live-action Toys 'R' Us movie. Meanwhile, Hazelight is already teasing its next game, keeping fans eagerly anticipating what's next.
