Jon Hamm Is Still Trying To Land An MCU Role

Author : Aurora Update:Jan 16,2025

Jon Hamm, the acclaimed star of Mad Men, is closer than ever to making his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut. He's currently in discussions with Marvel Studios regarding a potential adaptation of a beloved comic book storyline that has piqued both his and the studio's interest. Hamm has openly admitted to pitching himself for multiple MCU roles.

Hamm's near-miss with the Marvel universe is well-documented. Initially slated to portray the iconic villain Mister Sinister in Fox's X-Men franchise, his scenes in The New Mutants were ultimately cut due to the film's troubled production. This left many fans disappointed, as Hamm had long been a popular fan-cast choice for various superhero roles.

However, a recent Hollywood Reporter profile revealed Hamm's renewed pursuit of an MCU role. He confirmed pitching himself for parts based on a comic book he admires, and after Marvel expressed interest in adapting the same story, Hamm boldly declared his suitability for the part.

While the specific comic book remains undisclosed, fan speculation is rampant. A popular suggestion is Doctor Doom, the iconic Fantastic Four antagonist, a role Hamm previously expressed interest in. Following the Mister Sinister setback, he highlighted Doctor Doom and the Fantastic Four as particularly appealing projects.

Hamm's career is marked by his selective approach to roles, avoiding typecasting. His recent appearances in Fargo and The Morning Show have cemented his continued relevance, frequently placing him atop lists of A-list actors yet to join the MCU. His past rejection of the Green Lantern role further underscores his preference for character-driven parts, making a villainous role like Doctor Doom a plausible outcome, although Doom's inclusion in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot remains unconfirmed, with Galactus currently rumored as the primary antagonist. The possibility of Hamm reprising Mister Sinister under Disney's direction also remains open.

Ultimately, the success of Hamm's collaboration with Marvel and the specific project's cinematic future remain to be seen.
