Jason Momoa's portrayal of Lobo in the upcoming 2026 DC Universe movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is generating significant buzz among fans. Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, is known for his superhuman strength and immortality. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, the character first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983 and is the last survivor of his destroyed home world, much like Superman.
Having previously played Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), Momoa is thrilled to join the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) as Lobo. He has expressed that Lobo is his favorite comic book character, citing aesthetic similarities between himself and the character. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa shared his excitement and nervousness about bringing Lobo to life, hinting that fans will see a faithful and rugged portrayal of the character, complete with a cool bike.
Momoa also clarified that Lobo's role in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be brief, as the movie primarily focuses on Supergirl. "It's her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit," he stated, emphasizing that the film is centered around Supergirl's journey.
From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl on Bluesky, marking the beginning of filming for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The movie, inspired by the graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira, follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll seeking revenge for her father's murder with Supergirl's help against the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills.
The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, alongside Jason Momoa.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is slated for release in June 2026, following the premiere of James Gunn's Superman earlier that summer. The DCU's Clayface movie is scheduled for September 2026, rounding out a busy year for the franchise.
