YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, has shared his disappointment over a canceled Soma animated show project in a video titled 'A Bad Month.' The project, which he had been working on for a year, fell apart suddenly, leaving him "quite upset."
Soma, a critically acclaimed survival horror science fiction game developed by Frictional Games, was released in 2015. Jacksepticeye, a fan of the game, streamed it extensively upon its release and considers it one of his top favorite video games. He had been in discussions with the developers for a year to create an animated show based on the game, which he was excited to announce and share with his audience.
However, the project collapsed abruptly after an unnamed party decided to take it in a different direction. Jacksepticeye chose not to delve into the specifics of the situation due to his frustration and disappointment. The cancellation has significantly disrupted his plans for 2025, as he had intended to focus much of his efforts on the show, which would have allowed him to create less frequent but more substantial content.
In the video, Jacksepticeye expressed his frustration over the past month, having taken time off and made numerous calls to address the fallout from the project's cancellation. He lamented the lack of content creation and the disruption to his creative plans.
Frictional Games, the developer behind Soma, has since released two more games in the Amnesia series: Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. Following the release of Amnesia: The Bunker, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip indicated a shift in focus away from horror games towards exploring other emotional qualities in their games, aiming to provide immersive experiences that go beyond just being spooky.
