Industry insider AusilMV, known for accurate game leaks, suggests that Season 5 of MultiVersus could be its final season if it fails to perform well. A reliable source reportedly informed AusilMV that Season 5 is a last-ditch attempt to revive the game's flagging popularity. While currently just a rumor, the situation is undeniably concerning.
The game's initial launch in 2022 saw explosive success, peaking at 153,000 concurrent Steam players. However, a dramatic 99% player drop followed shortly after, leading Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, controversially labeling it an "open beta test." Despite a relaunch in May 2024 with updates, MultiVersus has struggled to recapture its initial momentum.
Launching in early February, Season 5 represents a crucial turning point, potentially the developers' final opportunity to reignite player interest. The game's 2022 release, now retrospectively termed a "beta," initially captivated players. However, the developer's March 2023 announcement of a temporary shutdown in June of that year angered many, particularly those who had purchased the premium edition. The fate of MultiVersus now hangs in the balance, dependent on the success of this fifth and possibly final season.
