John Carpenter and Boss Team Games to Develop Two New Halloween Games

Boss Team Games, creators of the acclaimed Evil Dead: The Game, have announced they are developing two new Halloween games in collaboration with the legendary John Carpenter, director of the original 1978 Halloween film. This exciting news comes via an exclusive with IGN.

Halloween Games Announcement

Carpenter, a self-described video game enthusiast, expressed his eagerness to contribute to a new Halloween game, aiming for a truly terrifying player experience. The games, currently in early development, will utilize Unreal Engine 5 and are being produced in partnership with Compass International Pictures and Further Front. The official announcement promises players the chance to relive iconic moments from the films and play as classic characters. Boss Team Games CEO Steve Harris called the opportunity to work with the Halloween franchise and Carpenter a "dream come true."

Halloween Games Collaboration

While specific details are scarce, the announcement has ignited considerable fan anticipation.

A Sparse History of Halloween Games

The Halloween franchise has a relatively limited video game presence despite its significant impact on the horror genre. A single official game, released in 1983 for the Atari 2600 by Wizard Video, predates most modern gamers' experiences. This rarity, along with Wizard's Texas Chainsaw Massacre adaptation, has become a sought-after collector's item.

Michael Myers, the franchise's iconic villain, has appeared in several modern games as DLC, notably in Dead by Daylight, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Fortnite. The upcoming games' promise to allow players to inhabit classic characters suggests the potential inclusion of both Myers and Laurie Strode, the enduring protagonist, mirroring the decades-long conflict that defines the franchise.

Halloween Game History

The Halloween film series, a cornerstone of horror cinema, comprises thirteen films:

  • Halloween (1978)
  • Halloween II (1981)
  • Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
  • Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
  • Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
  • Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
  • Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
  • Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
  • Halloween (2007)
  • Halloween (2018)
  • Halloween Kills (2021)
  • Halloween Ends (2022)

A Match Made in Horror

Boss Team Games' expertise in horror games, particularly their successful Evil Dead: The Game (developed with Saber Interactive), sets a high bar for their Halloween endeavors. Carpenter's passion for gaming, evidenced by his past interviews discussing titles like Dead Space, Fallout 76, Borderlands, Horizon: Forbidden West, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, adds another layer of authenticity and excitement.
