The team behind Hollow Knight: Silksong has clarified the game's brief showcase during Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase 2025, where it appeared alongside the new ROG Ally X handheld.
During the event, Xbox president Sarah Bond announced that Silksong would be "playable at launch and available through Game Pass when the Ally releases later this year" - sparking speculation among fans that the game might debut as a launch title for the new hardware, scheduled for Holiday 2025.
Team Cherry, the game's developer, has since clarified this misunderstanding.
In statements on the game's official Discord viewed by IGN, Team Cherry's marketing manager Matthew 'Leth' Griffin confirmed Silksong isn't waiting for the ROG Ally X launch, with the game arriving before the holiday season.
"We confirmed BEFORE Holiday," Griffin stated, emphasizing: "our release isn't tied to any console launch."
To avoid confusion, when asked which holiday he meant, Griffin specified: "Yes, Christmas."
With the game scheduled for a public demo at Melbourne's Australian Centre for the Moving Image starting September 18, could we see Silksong launch as early as September?

Fans expected clearer release date news from the Xbox showcase, especially after recent Steam store page updates suggested an imminent launch or possible surprise release.
While Xbox reserved its surprise announcement for Final Fantasy 16, Silksong enthusiasts continue awaiting their long-anticipated Metroidvania adventure - though with just six months remaining until Christmas.
For those planning to play Silksong on the go, IGN has already tested the upcoming ROG Ally X handheld.
