Guide to Earning the Shooting Star Trophy in Monster Hunter Wilds

Author : Benjamin Update:May 20,2025

While many achievements in *Monster Hunter Wilds* focus on tackling the largest and most formidable beasts, there's a unique challenge that requires you to find the smallest creature in the game. If you're eager to unlock the 'I Caught a Shooting Star' trophy/achievement, here's a detailed guide to help you achieve it.

The 'I Caught a Shooting Star!' hidden trophy/achievement is both simple in concept and elusive in execution. If you're not aware of it, you might miss it entirely. To unlock this achievement, you need to capture a unique endemic life form in the **Windward Plains** known as the **Sandstar**. This small creature, resembling a desert mouse with a long tail and shimmering fur, can only be found at night in a specific area of the region.

Since the Windward Plains are typically explored during the day in the game's storyline, you'll need to wait until nightfall. Here are two ways to pass the time until night:

  • **Fast Travel** – This method becomes available as soon as you unlock different fast travel points in the Windward Plains. Use your interactive map to access the fast travel menu and travel between points until you reach nightfall.
  • **Rest** – After completing Chapter 3 and unlocking high-rank content, you can rest at a base or pop-up camp. Use your Guild Points to rest and choose the time of day (Morning, Daytime, Evening, or Nighttime) and environmental conditions (No Change, Fallow, Plenty, or Inclemency).

The Sandstar is small and incredibly fast, making it a challenging target even on a Seikret. To increase your chances of capturing it, consider gathering **Screamer Pods** beforehand. These can be obtained from **Baunos**, small winged scavengers with red bodies found in groups around **Area 11** and **Area 13** of the Windward Plains. They often gather around carcasses, so taking them out can yield the necessary pods.

Once night falls in the Windward Plains, head to the area between Area 11 and Area 13. Keep a sharp lookout for the Sandstar. When you spot it, chase it at full speed and, if you have them, use a Screamer Pod to stun it. Immediately switch to your **Capture Net** (used for fishing) and throw it at the stunned Sandstar to capture it. Successfully capturing the Sandstar will unlock the 'I Caught a Shooting Star!' trophy/achievement and reward you with the **Ribbon Dream: Amber** nameplate for your Hunter Profile.
