Obtaining the Flare Knife
The Flare Knife is surprisingly accessible early in the game. Once you achieve Level 003 Code Clearance, visit Zakka in The Warren. This vendor offers a range of items, including the Flare Knife, purchasable for 3,000 Entitlement Points. Equip it via the Loadout menu in the Personal Responsibility Portal, selecting an available Combat Item slot.
Utilizing the Flare Knife
The Flare Knife is a reusable combat tool specifically designed for severing Abductor limbs. This is particularly useful for players who prefer Polearms or Heavy Melee weapons, providing a means to sever limbs without switching to Light Melee weapons. However, remember that it's a single-use item per operation; you'll need to repurchase it for subsequent missions.
To use the Flare Knife, target the severable Abductor part. Use your Thorn to grapple onto the chosen body part. With the Flare Knife equipped, a severing option will appear. This initiates a quick-time event (QTE) requiring rapid button presses to complete the severing. Success depends on depleting the QTE bar before the Abductor interrupts you (e.g., by leaping or crashing). Cooperative play with friends can significantly increase your chances of success by allowing for repeated snares.
